GESCI organised the second capacity building for members of the Regional Education Learning Initiative-RELI Values and Life Skills Thematic Group in Kenya on 3rd May,2023.
This workshop sought to 1. Understand and appreciate how government policies work. 2. Learn how can the Thematic Group members leverage from the various assessment and reports VALI has undertaken under its various programs. 3. Understand the place of data in influencing policy decisions through advocacy and/or policy.
The session on data advocacy was facilitated by Brezhnev Otieno, a Data Advocacy Expert working with AMREF.He took participants through qualities of good data and how to carry out date driven advocacy.
On government policy, Mr. Lumbasi Bartholemew, an Officer in the directorate of policy at Ministry of Education, Kenya said it is important to foster collaboration within the education sector in Kenya and within the East Africa Community to influence policy change through evidence collected.
