Kenya’s Ministry of Education through the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO, in partnership with the GPE KIX Africa 19 Hub (UNESCO IICBA, UNICEF and AU IPED) convened the GPE/KIX National Knowledge Sharing and Policy Meeting under the theme “Aligning Evidence for System-Level Impact.” The meeting brought together government institutions, regional and continental bodies, development partners, researchers, academia, and civil society actors committed to strengthening education systems through evidence-informed policy and practice.
Opening reflections highlighted that evidence is not only about generating research, but also about asking better questions, strengthening implementation, reducing fragmentation across initiatives, and scaling approaches that improve learning outcomes. Discussions also emphasized the importance of aligning evidence with policy priorities, budgeting processes, and system-level reforms while fostering stronger regional collaboration and peer learning.
Through its engagement under the GPE KIX Africa 19 Hub, African Union Pan-African Institute of Education for Development continues to support knowledge exchange, peer learning, and the use of continental tools such as the AU EMIS Norms and Standards to strengthen education data systems and decision-making across Africa. The meeting provided a platform to generate practical actions to advance evidence uptake, strengthen coordination, and sustain policy engagement in Kenya and beyond.
GESCI will continue supporting the African Union Pan-African Institute of Education for Development in strengthening research, EMIS systems, and evidence-informed education policy and planning across the continent.
