Rwanda creates ICT TPD road map
The MINEDUC-GeSCI partnership developed a problem definition document in the area of ICT in Teacher Professional Development (ICT TPD) and followed this with a data collection from Pre and In-service Teacher Training Colleges and Institutions. The findings from these processes have been discussed and analyzed in a multi-stakeholder workshop conducted in April 2009. As a result of the workshop discourse and on the basis of the UNESCO ICT Competency Standards for Teachers, the Rwanda ICT TPD matrix and toolkit was developed. The ICT TPD Matrix has been trialled as part of the OLPC-Microsoft pilot project in Byumba School. In addition, feedback has been obtained from MINEDUC and its programme implementing agencies on the field test version of the matrix.
The ICT TPD workshop was held on the 13th May 2010 in the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC), Kigali. The theme of the workshop was “Focus Group Discussion on an ICT-TPD Matrix for Rwanda”. The strategic objective of the workshop was to examine parameters for ICT use in Teacher Professional Development in Rwanda in order to develop ICT Teacher Competency Standards for integrating the use of technology in Pre-service and In-service programmes.
