GESCI Board of Directors Appoints New Chairperson

The Global e-Schools and Communities Initiatives (GESCI) Board of Directors has appointed Prof.Emmanuel Mutisya as the Board Chairperson to spearhead the organization’s growth in the education and skills development sub-sector. He works with the African Development Bank and is a Visiting Professor in a number of universities including the University of Nairobi.

He is also the Chairman of the National Diaspora Council of Kenya (NADICOK) and anInternational Board Member of the University of Cape Town. With his extensive experience and networks in education, skills development, youth entrepreneurship and employment, Prof. Mutisya is expected to expand GESCI’s outreach and impact across Africa.

Prof. Mutisya takes over from Mr. Brendan Tuohy, who, on behalf of the Irish Government in 2003, was a member of the UN taskforce which established GESCI.

Accepting his appointment during the Annual Board Meeting held in December 2020, he talked about his belief in GESCI’s ability to work with partners and governments in ensuring we come up with local solutions to solve challenges encountered in the developing world through quality education and skills.

He joins a team of experts in the Education Space who sit in the GESCI Board incuding; Hendrina Doroba of the African Development Bank (AfDB); Mary Kang’ethe, formerly working at the Ministry of Education Kenya and is now the Director, Kenya National Commission for UNESCO, KNATCOM; John Muthangya, Coolight Technologies African Limited and Ahlin Cataria, former Executive Director of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA).
