Ecole Numérique d'Excellence Africaine (ENEA) “e-Enabled” Certification

Abidjan, 10th May, 2019: GESCI (Global eSchools and Communities Initiative) in partnership with the Ministry of National Education and Technical Training of Côte d’Ivoire, held a progressive event for 20 Secondary Schools in the regions of Abidjan and Yamoussoukro. These schools are implementing the Ecole Numérique d'Excellence Africaine (ENEA) programme and have since progressed from the ‘e-Initial’ stage of technology integration to the ‘e-Enabled’ level.     20 secondary schools received the ‘e-enabled’ certificates and the Heads of Schools received certification in recognition of their lead roles in ensuring the implementation of ICTs in teaching and learning in their schools. GESCI has worked with the schools to train their teachers in two cycles, first on Technology Literacy and second on Knowledge Deepening. Teachers are now able to incorporate various ICTs tools in their classroom teaching.  196 Teachers have been taken through the Technology Literacy cycle of training and were certified.  The Cycle 2 on Knowledge Deepening kicked off in January 2019.  DAHA CLEMENT, Chef of Establishment of Lycée Moderne de Koumassi said : ‘the ongoing Teachers Professional Development is immensely helpful to integrate ICT in subject teaching. The ‘e-enabled’ certification is a motivation for us to work towards achieving the Digital Schools of Distinction status’. The Director of Cabinet, Mr. Kabran Assoumou, emphasized at the event that the ENEA programme was launched in June 2017 and it has taken deep roots into these 20 Schools. He said: ‘The commitment from Heads of Schools, School Board and the Teachers is excellent and we are highly appreciative of the GESCI programme to integrate ICT in Education and in building a programme model for the country’.  This event precedes the training for school leaders aimed at equipping them with skills to take their schools to the next level in the Digital Schools of distinction developement pathway.  The Ecole Numérique d'Excellence Africaine (ENEA) Programme is funded by Mastercard Foundation, Canada. The Director of Cabinet addressing the principals, school board chairs and School-Based Coordinators on behalf of Madame the Minister 'you are pioneers in the area of the integration of ICT in teaching and learning and building a Digital School of Distinction.When you will look back years from now, you will understand the great service you have rendered to the education system of your country, you will be very proud of yourselves.'
Jerome Morrissey, CEO of GESCI said: “ The overall objective of ENEA is to identify a sustainable model to enrich the quality of education and to provide students with the skills required for the workplaces of  the developing knowledge economy  in Côte D’Ivoire”. He said that GESCI hopes to continue to work with the Ministry on this ground breaking initiative in Côte D”Ivoire. ENEA is unique to Africa as an innovative program to transform secondary schools into Digital Schools of Distinction. It is designed specifically to build student 21St century skills, enhance student learning in Science, Technology, English and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, and professionalize teachers’ skills and practice in using ICT.
