GESCI at the IGAD Partners Meeting on Implementation of the Djibouti Declaration on Education for Refugees, Returnees and Host Communities

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 2nd  - 6th December, 2018: GESCI was invited to the Second Conference of IGAD Ministers in charge of Education. The meeting’s focus was to adopt a costed action plan for implementation of the Djibouti Declaration (DD) and Plan of Action in the next 2-5 years; validate and regional policy framework on qualifications are adopted. The meeting brought together Ministers in charge of Education from (Kenya, Somalia,South Sudan,Sudan,Uganda,Djibouti and Ethiopia ) ,representatives from International Non-Governmental Organisations and the EU. The EU announced that it has recently launched its new policy framework on refugees and reflects the thinking of  EU’s operational committee on Trust Fund .Their investment is looking at increasing their support to skills development.This policy will assist GESCI to deliver it 2017-2020 whith a key focus area on ensuring learners in crisis environments have access to quality education. The meeting provided an avenue for partners to assess specific country needs and mapping out funds/support provided to IGAD members on education for refugees.
