GESCI (The Global E-Schools and Communities Initiative), based in Nairobi, in collaboration with other strategic partners, organised the Youth Forum on Youth Skills and Enterprise in the Digital Age  - an initiative of the Continental Education Strategy for Africa  2016-2025 (CESA ) of African Union within which  GESCI chairs the ICT In Education Cluster. The forum provided an opportunity for GESCI to showcase its highly innovative Creative Digital Media Skills for Employment, Enterprise and Start-Ups model which was researched and developed in its digital media centre in Nairobi. Speaking at the forum, Jerome Morrissey, CEO, GESCI, urged policy makers to ensure Art and Design is encouraged and accentuated by the use of technology to boost various skills for the youth enabling them to secure jobs. He said:  “Understanding which sectors require the development of skills is key to youth employment creation. He added that, the cultural and creative sector is one of the fastest growing in the world and digital skills interfaced with cultural content will create employment.” During the forum, the Skills Initiative for African Youth was launched by NEPAD in Cooperation with the African Union Commission. The aim of this initiative is to strengthen occupational prospects of young people, especially for women and youth from poor areas. The pilot of the project, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and KfW Development Bank is currently running in Kenya, South Africa, Tunisia, Nigeria and Cameroon. GESCI’s African Digital Schools Initiative Programme Manager Senthil Kumar shared the experience of the ICT Integration project which seeks to impart 21^st century skills among learners with the secondary school curriculum.140 secondary schools are part of this pre-scaling project across Kenya, Tanzania and Côte d’Ivoire. The initiative is funded by Mastercard Foundation.
