GESCI (Global eSchools and Communities Initiative) implemented a new and exciting technology-driven innovation in secondary education in Kenya called ADSI – Africa Digital Schools Initiative – will transform 80 secondary schools into Digital Schools of Distinction where ICT permeates the whole school and where digital technologies are utilised by teachers to enhance teaching and improve learning. The initiative will develop a blueprint as a model capable of scaling the programme at national level.  In partnership with the Ministry of Education Science and Technology and key education directors from the four counties participating in thre programme – Kiambu, Nyamira, Taita Taveta and Narok  -  GESCI handed over a second batch of  ICT equipment to the 80 secondary schools participating in the African Digital Schools Initiative (ADSI) Programme. Each of the 80 secondary schools have already received laptops and digital projectors.  This equipment is incorporated in graduated teacher training and development over 4 years with the objective of  ensuring effective technology-driven teaching and enabling better learning, particularly in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, English and Mathematics). Speaking at the event, Mr. Robert Masese, Director Secondary Education, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said, “ICT integration in school management and school selection has enabled us to carry out Form 1 selection in record time. He said that:  “we should all embrace ICTs as in the near future everybody must be ICT literate. I encourage the principals from the ADSI schools to send their teachers to centres like CEMASTEA for capacity building in terms of ICT use. He concluded: “I want to commend GESCI for this partnership; they understand the place of Information Communication Technology in teaching and learning and in society. Thank you GESCI."
