GESCI Conducts ICT Training for teachers in Kenya

The Global E-Schools and Communities initiative in partnership with the MasterCard Foundation is training 800 teachers from four selected counties in Kenya.
Nairobi , Kenya: The Global E-Schools and Communities Initiative in partnership with the MasterCard Foundation is training 800 teachers from four selected counties in Kenya. The training kicked off on 30th January in the counties of Nyamira,Taita Taveta,Narok and Kiambu with the first and second cohort already done. The third cohort training ends today. Through this process GESCI seeks to equip teachers with ICT skills on blended learning models .The course will continue online through a Moodle platform where teachers will be to interact with others from various parts of the country. GESCI is conducting this training as part of implementation of the African Digital Schools Initiative (ADSI) to ensure integration of ICTs in teaching and learning. Teachers expressed enthusiasm in the project as they went through the training. One of the teachers from Kiambu County said “The lesson design is a bit complicated and requires adequate time for one to internalize the various components including TPACK, ATL, OERs.” Another teacher from Taita Taveta  was fascinated by the fact that he can speak to another teacher somewhere else.In his remarks as the day two of the training came to a close he said “It feels good to chat with teachers from all over Kenya.This is the first time it is happening.” This training comes days after GESCI handed over digital equipment to schools to facilitate e-learning. GESCI is implementing the ADSI project as part of its mission to advance equitable access to high-quality education for all as well achieve key Sustainable Development Goals.
