GESCI contributes to UNESCO Colloquium

UNESCO held a 3 day colloquium on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Teacher Training in Eastern Africa November 25-27, 2015, in Nairobi, Kenya. The Colloquium, “Taking the Qingdao Declaration forward - Seizing digital opportunities in East Africa to lead education transformation”, brought out opportunities for discussion and sharing of initiatives, emerging good practice and issues around the principles of the Qingdao Declaration
UNESCO held a 3 day colloquium on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Teacher Training in Eastern Africa November 25-27, 2015, in Nairobi, Kenya. The Colloquium, “Taking the Qingdao Declaration forward - Seizing digital opportunities in East Africa to lead education transformation”, brought out opportunities for discussion and sharing of initiatives, emerging good practice and issues around the principles of the Qingdao Declaration. The event brought together 81 representatives from five countries, namely: Kenya, Uganda, Seychelles, Mauritius, and Tanzania, as well as IGOs, NGOs, foundations, and the private sector in the region. GESCI’s Chief Executive Officer Jerome Morrissey, Director of programs, Patti Swarts, country program manager, Esther Mwiyeria and senior education specialist, Mary Hooker attended the colloquium and made presentations on leadership development and policy coherence for sustainable ICT integration and education transformation, GESCI’s Strengthening Innovative Practice in Secondary Education (SIPSE) program rolled out in 20 Kenyan and Tanzanian secondary schools from 2013 to 2015 and monitoring, evaluation, learning and applied research in pilot initiatives. GESCI also facilitated some key sessions in the conference. One session focused on policy dialogue and prioritization for ICT integration in education. Another session presented an open world café for participants to present key country initiatives for ICT integration. For more information on the colloquium read UNESCO’s Press Release.
