Welcome to GeSCI's new website!
I hope you like it and find it useful for your own business. We are extremely happy to endeavour to serve you all. GeSCI's primary role is to build and share knowledge and information related to ICT in Education, especially in the context of developing inclusive knowledge societies in the developing world. I invite you, not only to read our website, but also to reflect on the issues raised together with us.
In many ways the new GeSCI website is like any other organization's website in that it informs people of what we are doing and describes topics in the field of ICT4E and development. However, we have tried to enrich the site with added functionality that offers you the possibility to exchange and debate your ideas with others. If you and the other global colleagues are interested GeSCI would like to create a good virtual meeting place for the broader ICT4E community to discuss and debate the developmental challenges of ICT4E and Knowledge Society. We can easily add interactive technical features to our website, if found useful. As we know that communities of practice may or may not evolve, we do not try to make it happen artificially. It really is up to you and others like you.
This interactive corner of the website (or blog, to use the technical term) is dedicated to topical short texts updated on a regular basis. I have promised to write something provocative in the beginning and I will challenge my colleagues to take over the blog later on. So, this blog will be my main contribution to the global virtual debate on ICT4E in the developmental context from now on. Just before I start, it might be good to say that my blog does not always reflect the opinions of other GeSCI colleagues and I don't expect them to agree with me in all details. We do not try to formulate any "official" opinions in this blog. Everyone is individually responsible for what they write.
My firs topic will be about GeSCI's vision: Knowledge Society for All. It has been received with mixed feelings, so I think it is good to start from it. Just keep following the blog, my first blurb well be here in the coming week, just before my summer leave.
