Engagement

The engagement phase is by far the most critical phase in the programme life-cycle. This phase is characterised by on-the-ground strategic intervention by either a country programme facilitator (often based at the Ministry) or strategic partner, and a body of global experts, all of whom work with the MoE over a period of at least two years to bring the programme to maturity and sustainability.

During this phase GeSCI collaborates with the MoE to fill capacity gaps across a number of units within a typical MoE; from curriculum and assessment to teacher professional development and more. This phase often sees the ministry develop ICT4E policy with GeSCI's support and can sometimes reach fruition in wide-scale deployment. However, every country is unique and every context requires a carefully considered approach.

GeSCI's technical and strategic advice centres on the five most critical thematic areas in ICT4E Programmes. These are Educational Management and ICT; ICT Infrastructure, Connectivity and Accessibility; Integration of ICT in Teaching and Learning; Teacher Education and ICT and Educational Content and ICT. Our advice (both actionable and emanating from a sound theoretical and research base), supplemented by tailor-made knowledge tools and informed by global policy dialogue, fortifies the MoE's own innate capacity to meet its strategic objectives. As a demand-driven organisation we respect the right of the MoE to make its own decisions irrespective of our advice. We are there to provide objective non-partisan advice and expertise with a view to assisting the MoE to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the education system.
