The Benefits of our Work

GeSCI's work benefits its developing country partners, its donors and the global development community engaged with education and capacity building.

At the country level the ultimate outcome of GeSCI's work is sustained capacity of MoEs to plan for and effectively use ICTs to improve education for sustainable socio-economic development. The benefits and outcomes of GeSCI's work, while varying from country to country include but are not limited to:

  • Value for money

A key feature of GeSCI's work is a better realisation of value for money on ICT4E investments through carefully planning prior to acquisition. This can prevent wasteful expenditure on ICT4E interventions that will not contribute to achievement of educational objectives, or that are otherwise unsustainable.
  •

  • Improving access and quality of education

GeSCI's work often leads to provision of better support to teachers and students by leveraging ICTs; for instance through the development or improvement of teacher professional development distance education programmes or the creation of quality electronic learning and teaching materials.
  •

  • Improving the management of the education sector:

GeSCI's work also leads to improvement in the management efficiency of the education system through successful deployment of Education Management Information Systems and the improvement of the Ministry of Education's own ICT infrastructure and systems.
  •

  • Introduction of new skills for the 21st century skills

GeSCI's work also leads to a realisation of countries' plans to introduce ICT skills training in the education sector as well as the use of ICTs to develop 21st centaury skills such as communication, collaboration, problem solving etc thereby rendering education more relevant for countries' future needs.

Donors

For its donors and other development partners, GeSCI's work situates ICTs within the wider education Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) and thus makes it easier for donors to understand how ICTs are being used to support educational challenges and priorities. GeSCI's work in ensuring value for money and reducing wastages in expenditure on ICTs for Education means that the government and the donors' funds are being more effectively and efficiently used.

Global Partners

For the global development community, GeSCI's knowledge building, policy dialogue and advocacy work is meant to share good and emerging practices and other knowledge to enrich the community's overall knowledge and effectiveness.
